9th DSTMUN Invitation

Dear students, teachers, parents and visitors,

It is our great pleasure to hereby invite you and your students to the 9th annual session of the Deutsche Schule Thessaloniki Model United Nations conference that will take place on November 20th-22nd, 2026, on the premises of the German School of Thessaloniki.

DSTMUN is a three-day-long simulation of the proceedings of the United Nations that provides junior high school and high school students (grades 8 to 12) with the opportunity to improve their English and debating skills while discussing global issues on an international level.

The conference will consist of four General Assembly Committees (Disarmament and International Security Committee; Economic and Financial Committee; Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Committee; Special Political and Decolonisation Committee), as well as six specialized committees (Security Council; Council of the European Union; International Court of Justice; Human Rights Council; Youth Delegate Forum; Economic and Social Council). Depending on the committee they take part in, delegates will do research on their topic, draft resolutions and policy statements on various issues and learn to follow the rules and the formalities set by the United Nations.

We eagerly await engaging discussions aimed at addressing the urgent challenges posed by our conference’s topic: “A more just world: The role of Peremptory Norms in International Law”. Through this year’s theme, we invite delegates to explore the fundamental principles that stand above all others—from the prohibition of genocide and slavery to the absolute ban on torture—shaping a global order where justice is not negotiable, but absolute. Join us as we embark on a journey of diplomacy, dialogue and decisive action, shaping a world where peace and cooperation thrive.

Being a conference organized by students for students, DSTMUN proves that youth is indeed capable of carrying out important tasks, which is exactly what delegates will be called upon to do during the three days of our conference.

The members of the Human Rights Council (HRC) will engage in critical dialogue on some of the most pressing violations of fundamental rights, striving to confront corporate accountability in conflict zones, ensure access to healthcare amid instability, and combat deeply rooted practices such as female genital mutilation, all through the lens of peremptory norms that demand universal respect.

In the General Assembly, delegates will address the evolving nature of global injustice, from the ethical and legal implications of autonomous lethal weapons and cyberwarfare to the persistence of forced labor, human trafficking, and the exploitation embedded within modern economic systems. At the same time, emphasis will be placed on safeguarding cultural heritage and protecting vulnerable populations, including internally displaced persons, reinforcing the non-derogable principles at the heart of international law.

Within the Security Council, participants will confront complex threats to international peace and security, including the escalation of armed violence, the influence of transnational organized crime, and the weakening of democratic institutions. Debates will further challenge delegates to evaluate the Responsibility to Protect as a binding legal obligation, questioning how far the international community is willing to go to uphold justice.

Finally, in the Council of the European Union (EU), delegates will engage in high-level negotiations on environmental and financial governance, reassessing transport emissions, addressing violations linked to piracy, and strengthening mechanisms to combat money laundering, highlighting the role of regional actors in upholding and enforcing fundamental legal norms.

The Organizing Team of DSTMUN is working tirelessly to ensure that all committees will provide their delegates with interesting and constructive debates and hopes to see many of you in person at the conference in November.
